Leaflet: Admission Requirements
The requirements for admission to our Master Programme are:
- Graduation from a German or foreign institution of higher education (University level) representing a total of 240 Credit Points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), preferably in Law, Economics or Political Science.
Applicants who have earned their first degree qualifying for a professional career representing a total of 180 CP have to make up for the missing 60 CP by a good performance in additional or practical training programmes in fields similar to those of the Master Programme. Proof of this may be submitted in form of professional experience, further studies, research activities, publications and the like; - Very good English language proficiency.
Applicants who have not received their diploma entitling them to be admitted to an institution of higher education (e.g. school leaving certificate or university-entrance qualification) from an English-speaking institution must provide proof of their English language proficiency by submitting one of the following tests (the test shall not date back more than three years):- TOEFL with a minimum result of 79 (iBT), 213 (CBT) or 550 (PBT);
- IELTS with a minimum result of 6.5;
- The Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) with a grade of "C" as a minimum in all parts;
- The Cambridge in Advanced English (CAE) with a grade of "C" as a minimum in all parts;
- Very good German language proficiency in case the applicant wishes to participate in German lectures and to sit examinations in German.
Applicants who have not received their diploma entitling them to be admitted to an institution of higher education (e.g. school leaving certificate or university-entrance qualification) from a German-speaking institution must provide proof of their German language proficiency by submitting one of the following tests (the test shall not date back more than three years):- Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz - Zweite Stufe;
- Zeugnis der Deutschen Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber (DSH) der Ebene DSH-2;
- Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache für ausländische Studienbewerber (TestDaF) mit dem Gesamtergebnis TDN 15, wobei drei Teilprüfungen mindestens mit Niveau 4 bestanden sein müssen;
- Zeugnis der Prüfung zur Feststellung der Eignung ausländischer Studienbewerber für die Aufnahme eines Studiums an Hochschulen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Feststellungsprüfung);
- Nachweise deutscher Sprachkenntnisse, die durch bilaterale Abkommen oder sonstige von der Kultusministerkonferenz und Hochschulrektorenkonferenz getroffene Vereinbarungen als für die Aufnahme eines Hochschulstudiums hinreichender Nachweis anerkannt wurden;
- "Großes" oder "Kleines" Deutsches Sprachdiplom des Goethe-Instituts;
- "Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung" (ZOP) des Goethe-Instituts;
- "Deutsche Sprachprüfungung II" des Sprachen- und Dolmetscher-Instituts München.
Checklist: Documents for Application
Your application shall be supplemented by the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae;
- Diploma qualifying for admission to an institution of higher education or an equivalent document which entitles the applicant to be admitted to an institution of higher education, e.g. school leaving certificate or university-entrance qualification;
- Document proving the graduation from an institution of higher education, possibly indicating the number of earned Credit Points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS);
- If necessary for compensation of missing CP: proof of achievements above average (such as practical experience, studies in other institutions, research activities, publications) in fields related to the Master Programme;
- Proof of the English language proficiencies required for studies and examinations in the Master Programme;
- Proof of the German language proficiencies required for studies and examinations in the Master Programme, if you wish to also attend lectures in German and sit examinations in German;
- Two informative letters of recommendation from professors or other individuals who are familiar with your academic and professional development addressed to the Director of Studies (the letters shall not date back more than 12 months);
- Possibly other documents, proving your qualification and motivation for the Master Programme;
- "Letter of Motivation": in this letter, you shall elaborate on your reasons for applying for admission to the Master Programme;
- "Declaration regarding the field of specialisation": your preference concerning the fields of specialisation shall be indicated (please indicate your first, second and third choice between the four specialisation fields "The EU as Political Actor", "External Relations of the EU", "Companies as Economic Actors" or "Law of the EU");
- Confirmation that the tuition fees according to the regulations of the Master Programme will be paid;
- Filled in application form.
